Wet Blasting History
The first known applications for wet blasting date back to pre-civil war times. Lamp makers used wet blasting as a means of stenciling glass chimneys for oil lamps. the lamp makers realized a finer etch and extended stencil life using a wet blast.
The expansion of wet blasting applications came with the further development of the turbine engine in the 1930's and 40's. Scientist realized that smoother surface finishes on airfoil surfaces increased the power and efficiency of the engine. Wet blasting with micro-fine media gave them the surface finishes they needed. Full use of wet blasting is recorded in 1940. Although existing wet blasting processes had already been developed, more versatility with built in degreasing was put in use. In addition, dust and strong chemicals were virtually eliminated. Today's VaquaŽ wet blasting processes are being continually researched and developed for higher performance, automation, and increased productivity.
